Sexual Intimacy and Family Life
Welcome back to my blog everyone!
This week's topic was based on sexual intimacy and family life. Initially, I thought discussing this subject would be awkward, but I found it intriguing, thanks to some comments and lessons Brother William shared that I had never considered before. One question that stood out to me was, "How firm is your foundation in marriage?" Although I am not married yet, this question seemed like a profound one to reflect on. It reminded me of the primary song "The Wise Man and the Foolish Man" and what they decided to build their foundation on. The wise man built his house on the rock, whereas the foolish man built his house on the sand. This analogy made me reflect on the importance of having solid communication in marriage. Talking to your spouse about things you want to try and what you desire is crucial because they can't read your mind, especially when it comes to sexual intimacy.
In our class, a book called "One Flesh, One Heart" was shared. This made me think of the promises made during marriage. The goal is to become one, work together, and become a team, not to butt heads with each other. An experience shared during our class that I found to be an excellent example was about a couple who had been having intimacy problems to the point where it was no longer happening. They sought counseling to help them overcome their issues. While in counseling, they were asked to give each other a back massage and actively communicate to their partner what felt good and whether to apply more or less pressure. When they returned to counseling a couple of weeks later, they were no longer having intimacy issues. This demonstrates that open communication about your wants and needs during sex is essential for both partners to have a special experience with one another.
Another example that stood out to me in class was our discussion on fidelity and infidelity. Fidelity means having loyalty to another person. This is important because if fidelity equals loyalty, you should think of your spouse before you act on infidelity. The topic of fidelity reminded me of a song by Bruno Mars called "Just the Way You Are." The lyrics touch me because he says that you are amazing just the way you are. It is important to listen and communicate with your partner about what makes you comfortable and uncomfortable, especially when it comes to opposite-sex friends or coworkers. It is significant to consider how your actions could affect your spouse.
Reflecting on this week's lessons, I have come to understand the profound importance of building a strong foundation in marriage, which involves solid communication and mutual respect. Openly discussing your needs, desires, and boundaries with your spouse is crucial for creating a deeper connection and preventing misunderstandings. Acts of fidelity and loyalty are indispensable in maintaining trust and ensuring a healthy, lasting relationship.
The analogy of the wise man building his house on the rock resonates deeply when considering the foundation of a marriage. A relationship built on trust, honest communication, and mutual support is more likely to withstand the storms and challenges that life inevitably brings. By prioritizing open communication, couples can navigate the complexities of sexual intimacy and other aspects of their relationship more effectively.
Moreover, the lesson on fidelity highlights the significance of loyalty in a marriage. By being loyal and considering your spouse's feelings before acting on infidelity, you can preserve the integrity of your relationship. Bruno Mars' song "Just the Way You Are" serves as a reminder that appreciating and valuing your partner for who they are is vital in fostering a loving and supportive environment.
In summary, this week's lessons have reinforced the importance of building a strong, resilient foundation in marriage through open communication, mutual respect, and unwavering loyalty. By actively working together and supporting one another, couples can create a harmonious and fulfilling relationship, much like the wise man who built his house on the rock. This solid foundation will not only help them navigate the challenges of life but also enable them to grow closer and stronger as a team.
